Research projects, collaborations and microscopy enquiries in UCL Chemistry.

Projects that connect experiment and computation.

We welcome enquiries from people interested in electron diffraction, microscope simulation, detector modelling and image analysis.

Research can combine experimental microscopy with Python, numerical modelling or machine learning. Tell us which research question interests you, the experience you bring and what you would like to learn.

For a project enquiry, please include a short description of your interests, a CV, and the project or research theme you would like to discuss.

PhD research

Contact Andrew to discuss a research direction and suitable application routes in UCL Chemistry. Project scope, supervision arrangements and funding should be discussed before an application.

UCL Chemistry MPhil/PhD programme

Possible research directions

  • Low-fluence diffraction and imaging of beam-sensitive materials.
  • Electron-optics simulation and microscope calibration.
  • Synthetic training data and automated particle analysis.

Postdoctoral & fellowship enquiries

Discuss a proposal that connects with the group’s research themes. For fellowship ideas, get in touch well before the application deadline so there is time to develop the project.

Funded posts, when available, are advertised through UCL’s official jobs pages.

UCL jobs and opportunities

Undergraduate & MSci projects

Enquire about a focused project in microscopy simulation or image analysis, explaining your interests, skills and available timeframe.

Collaborations

Send a short description of your material, the structural question you want to answer and the measurements you have already tried. Useful information includes sample form, expected beam sensitivity and the type of result you need.

Facility access

For UCL Chemistry TEM facility enquiries, contact Andrew with your sample details and measurement requirements. Instrument suitability, training and access arrangements can then be discussed.
